Chapter Eleven

“Robin!” Abby sobbed. “Jim! Jim is gone! He took him!”

“Abby, calm down,” Robin said. “I need you to tell me everything about what happened.”

“A call,” she whispered. “I got a call. It was Jim, and he sounded horrible. He told me that if I want him back, I have to find you and tell you that the Executioner has another clue for you.”

“What clue?” Robin whispered.

“He gave a number. BZX12459. I don’t know what it means. Jim said you have one day, or else the explosive tied to his chest will go off,” Abby sobbed. “You have to do something, Robin! You have to save him.”

“It’s alright,” Robin said, hugging her. “I will get Jim back, don’t worry. Okay? I will find him, and I will bring him to you. I promise.”

Abby collapsed on the sofa, sobbing and Robin felt so overwhelmed, she almost couldn’t function anymore.

She forced herself to concentrate, knowing that Jim’s fate rested in her hands.

“That number,” she said. “What does it mean?”

“I don’t know,” Kyle said. “It could be anything.”

“But it’s not,” Robin said. “It’s something. I want everyone working on this. We need to save Jim, Kyle. Otherwise, I won’t be able to forgive myself.”

“Robin,” he whispered softly. “I know how hard this is on you.”

“No, you don’t,” she said. “If something happens to Jim today, his death would be on my hands. I will have one of Abby’s friends come and stay with her. Meanwhile, let’s get to this case.”

“The media is going crazy,” Lory said, walking over. “They are blaming the police again for everything that is happening.”

“I need to stop this,” Robin whispered. “I need to solve this case, and I need to do what’s right. It’s time to end this, once and for all.”
